Job Description:
As Pub Manager, you'll oversee every aspect of the pub's operation to ensure smooth service, high standards and a warm, memorable customer experience. You'll lead from the front, drive the venue's commercial performance and inspire a team who share your passion for proper hospitality. This is a hands-on role with genuine autonomy and the chance to shape the next chapter of one of Teignmouth's most historic pubs.

Nestled in the heart of Teignmouth, Ye Olde Jolly Sailor is believed to be the oldest building in town. It's a pub with centuries of character and a loyal community at its core, welcoming locals and holidaymakers year-round. Known for its warm atmosphere, traditional charm and excellent food and drink, The Jolly Sailor is a well-loved landmark with exciting potential for continued growth. We're now looking for a Manager who can honour its heritage while helping elevate the guest experience even further.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Recruit, train and motivate an outstanding front-of-house, bar and kitchen team.
- Foster a positive workplace where people feel valued and supported.
- Lead by example to deliver consistently excellent customer service.
Operations Management:
- Oversee all daily operations, including service delivery, cleanliness and health and safety compliance.
- Ensure all licensing regulations are upheld.
- Coordinate and enhance regular events such as quiz nights and seasonal promotions.
- Work closely with the kitchen team to maintain a high-quality food offering aligned with customer expectations.
Customer Experience:
- Build strong relationships with guests, locals and community groups.
- Maintain a welcoming atmosphere rooted in great hospitality.
- Respond to feedback and reviews proactively, resolving complaints promptly and professionally.
Financial Management:
- Manage budgets, stock levels and supplier relationships.
- Monitor sales performance and identify opportunities to grow revenue.
- Oversee cash handling, financial reporting and cost control.
Marketing & Promotions:
- Drive footfall through effective marketing, social media activity and community engagement.
- Collaborate with our internal marketing team to bring creative ideas to life.
- Support seasonal campaigns, events and initiatives designed to attract both locals and visitors.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in pub management or a similar hospitality role.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound knowledge of licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and financial management.
- Passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
